2013: Our Centenary Year
2013 is our centenary year: we’re celebrating 100 years supporting community health in Islington and, as you might know, we even have our very own book detailing the centre’s diverse histories.
2013 is set to be an exciting year with lots of events lined up, including:
- Ballo (or A Masked Ball) until Saturday, 25th May
- The Manor Gardens Summer Fair & Street Party, 27th July
Read on to find out more!

Every evening at 19:15 & Saturday 25th May at 15:00 & 19:15,King’s Head Theatre, 115 Upper Street, Islington, N1 1QN
On Sunday, Phillip Watson, Manor Gardens CEO, attended Ballo’s matinee with 5 other Manor Gardens supporters. This is what he had to say:
‘The show was truly wonderful and moving, and I would strongly reccommend that if you are able to attend any of the performances in the last of the run this week you should do so. You will not be disspointed. And, remember to quote ‘MGC’ when making a booking to save you money and help us raise valuable funds.’
This is the news that OperaUpClose are donating £8 of proceeds from their current production Ballo (or ‘A Masked Ball’) to Manor Gardens friends who quote our special code, ‘MGC’, when purchasing tickets. Not only will £8 be raised for Manor Gardens, but tickets are available at £20 instead of the normal £25!
The code is valid for all performances until 25th of May so you can support Manor Gardens any evening!

Our New Book
Our Chairman, Dr. Andrew Turton, has just published a fascinating new book about Manor Gardens. Manor Gardens Centre: A Century of Service in Community Health and Social Care details the diverse and varied histories of the centre, beginning with our rise from Islington’s gloomy past when 1 in 10 babies died before their first birthday, to wartime when the centre was a linchpin in the community, to the forming of the NHS and our decision to remain independent, to the changes in the community, an ageing population and our ever increasing diversity of supportive services. Click here to purchase this fascinating read now.
All proceeds go towards running the centre.
