A little help from our friends

Manor Garden’s Friendship Network provides a vital link for older people who are feeling isolated and alone. Our Friendship Network volunteers help people make new friends and feel more positive about life.

It’s important for our wellbeing that we get the support we need from friends, family and wider social networks. However, as we get older, it can become more difficult to maintain friendships or make new ones. Sometimes this can leave us feeling isolated or lonely.

If you’re aged over 60 and living in Islington, we can help you make new friendships and expand your social networks so that you can lead a fuller life with the social support you’re looking for.

A perfect match
If you’re looking to make a new friend for a regular chat in person or over the phone, then we can match you with one of our friendly volunteers. Just contact us and tell us what you need.

Social events and outings
If you’d like to meet new people while enjoying trips to local restaurants, the theatre or the local park, then we can help join you up with other like-minded people.

Computer support network
If you’re looking for help in getting to grips with your new computer or tablet, or want to know how to get started, our tech-savvy volunteers can give you a helping hand.

The difference we make
This year we’ve provided 71 telephone befriending volunteers and helped 73 older people take part in a variety of activities. Our volunteers are aged between 21 and 90 and come from a wide range of backgrounds and communities. Our members feel more positive after joining our networks and events and you can read more about this here.
