Winter Wellbeing Festival
There was a really positive vibe at our Winter Wellbeing Festival on Monday 20th March at the Islington Assembly Hall. Nearly 300 people turned out on a miserable March day to hear more about local organisations and how they can help you improve your wellbeing and to take part in taster sessions throughout the afternoon.
Local health and wellbeing organisations gave out leaflets, held quizzes, made crafts, gardened and made pledges from the 32 stalls around the sides. There were also chair massages and tapping to relieve stress which were very popular.
Islington’s Adult and Community Learning team made jewellery whilst Age UK’s creative team helped people make embossed copper greetings cards. Cubitt Arts made knitted tassles and St Luke’s did table-top gardening. The Direct Action Project and Rethink collected pledges from people about positive things they would do that day, encouraged them to make post-it compliments, and helped them to throw their stresses into the Stress Bucket.
Peter from Healthy Generations compered the event and introduced the taster sessions, which included yoga, gentle exercise, poetry performances, community singing, and Latin American and line dancing.
We were delighted to welcome 12 students from UCL to act as volunteers – greeting visitors at the front desk, taking photos, sorting out the performers and serving at our Tea Bar. We are very grateful to UCL and Women’s Therapy Centre for supporting the event financially and to Islington Assembly Hall for their community free let.
Planning is now underway for our Summer Wellbeing Festival on Saturday 8th July. If you would like to be involved please send us the completed forms below or email email@example.com.
